Okay I just spent the whole afternoon trying to give myself yarn braids and failed spectacularly.
I took some photos.
I will be honest, I am so bad at braiding I cried a little bit. But, on the upside my hair looks really lovely.
So under the cut my afternoon in pictures.
Big pics, not dial up friendly.
First up my conditioner mix. I'm all addicted to mixing super conditioners up for myself and this one is a winner. I use- (yes these are my amazon links) 1 Organic Root Stimulator Olive OIL Replenishing PAK
, a little bit of Palmers Coconut Oil Hair Conditioner - 5.25 Oz
, a few squirts of African Royale Hot Six Oil Hair & Body Mist - 8 Oz
and a little silk elements luxury conditioner.

How it looks mixed. I use a tint brush to mix it.

This is my pre-shampoo'd dry hair that I'd treated the night before with coconut oil. I parted my hair in four sections, detangled, then after applying the coconut oil I made little buns, wrapped them in plastic, wrapped with a satin scarf and went to bed. My hair LOVES coconut oil.
Also to prevent breakage I coat elastics in oil before using them.

Thus far in the process I was happy. I conditioned for about an hour under a heat cap, rinsed and my hair looked like this. (BIG pic here).

My hair is combed there and I love how it looks. I sectioned my hair again in four sections and used oiled elastics to air dry a bit. I used the ponytails to stretch my new growth some so braiding would be easier.
And here is where the fail started. It took me about two and a half hours to do two rows of braids and the ones I did at the beginning started to slide out immediately. Also I am not a good braider and they were so ugly. UGLY I didn't think to take pics except for this one. And yeah it was not working.

So I sat and stewed then started to take them out. It took me more than an hour, some tears and whining. And okay I give up I am not a braider and need to accept that. I can do some regular plaits that are chunky and ugly not fit to be worn out of the house but I need to not do the fancy things.
HOWEVER.
Silver lining is I took some pics of my air dried hair with no product and goddamn I am happy with my hair. My progress is really showing. My hair is thick lush and beautiful.

So it's eight o clock and I have no braids. But I do have fluffy gorgeous hair.
Moral of the story is, some people (me) just can't braid.
If you wanna skip the pics.
Braids failed but my hair is awesome.
I am going to try and continue my relaxer stretch. It's going pretty well still and it's been a little over four months. I'd like to make it to July. I will probably henna in a couple of weeks and keep doin what I'm doing. Buns, deep conditioning and glee.
